Experimental Study on Shear Mechanism of Rock-Like Material Containing a Single Non-Persistent Rough Joint

The geometrical and mechanical properties of non-persistent joints as well the behavior intact rock (rock bridges) are significantly effective in shear strength weakness planes containing joints. Therefore, comprehensive knowledge mechanism both bridges is required to assess planes. In this study, specimens a single rough joint investigated. A novel procedure was used prepare cast embedding (disc-shaped) using 3D printing casting technology, examined through an extensive direct testing program under constant normal load (CNL) condition. Three levels for three different variables roughness, bridge ratio, stress were considered, effects these factors on prepared samples tested. experimental results show clear influence specimens. that applied jointed zone considerable, thus friction contribution should be taken into account during evaluation. Furthermore, dilation before after failure investigated digital image correlation analysis. Finally, camcorder analyze location sequence initiated cracks.
